How to Make Moist Cornbread

Cornbread is a very simple dish to bake. However, many of the simplest recipes do not result in the best tasting cornbread. Boxed mixes are convenient, but can be dry and grainy. It is possible to enjoy the convenience of a boxed mix, but create a tastier final product by making a few adjustments to the original recipe. 1. Moist and Easy Cornbread

This is one of the simplest cornbread recipes available. It is easy to make, but still products a moist final product.

Servings: 4 to 6

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup cornmeal
  • 6 tspn. melted unsalted butter
  • Butter for greasing baking dish
  • 1 tspn. sugar
  • ½ tspn. baking soda
  • 1 ½ tspn. baking powder
  • ¾ cup all-purpose flour
  • ¼ tspn. salt
  • 2 large lightly beaten eggs
  • 1 ½ cup buttermilk

Directions:

  • Pre-heat the oven to 425 degrees F.
  • Grease 8-inch baking dish and set aside.
  • In a large bowl, mix all dry ingredients.
  • In a separate bowl, mix the eggs, buttermilk, and melted butter. Pour the liquid mixture into the dry mixture and mix until there are lumps, but no dry spots. Pour the batter into the greased baking dish.
  • Bake for 20 to 25 minutes or until the top is golden brown and tester inserted into the middle of the corn bread comes out clean.
  • Let finished cornbread cool for approximately 10 minutes before serving.

2. Moist Sweet Cornbread

This simple recipe uses butter, milk, and honey to create a moist cornbread.

Servings: 10 to 12

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup cornmeal
  • 3 cup all-purpose flour
  • ⅔ cup vegetable oil
  • ⅓ cup melted butter
  • 4 beaten eggs
  • 2½ cup whole milk
  • 1⅓ cup sugar
  • 2 tspn. baking powder
  • 1 tspn. salt
  • 2 tspn. honey

Directions:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F
  • Grease a 9X13 inch baking dish
  • In a large bowl, combine flour, cornmeal, baking powder, sugar, and salt.
  • To the dry mix, add butter, vegetable oil, milk, and eggs. Stir until moistened, but be careful not to over-stir.
  • Pour the batter into the baking dish.
  • Bake for 45 minutes or until the top of the cornbread is golden and beginning to crack.
  • Cool before serving.

General Rules for Making Moist Cornbread

1. Sweetening

It is possible to make traditional cornbread recipes sweeter. Instead of adding standard white sugar, try corn syrup, light brown sugar, or honey. In addition to giving the bread a sweeter taste, it also creates a moist texture.
